LASU, NCS Partner on Media Capacity Building
The National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service along with some PROs of Area Commands and Unit in Zone ‘A’ paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State University Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
The team was led by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Nigeria Customs Service, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada. Other members of the team are CSC Auwal Yakubu, PRO Port Terminal and Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command, SC Theoplus Duniya PRO Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, SC Hameed Oloyode, PRO Ogun I Command, SC Magaji Mailafiya PRO Western Marine Command, SC Victor Ogagbor, PRO Murtala Mohammed Airport Cargo Command among others.
Welcoming the team, the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Prof. Sunday Alawode, acknowledged the critical services the NCS has been rendering to the nation through its anti-smuggling operations, revenue generation and trade facilitation.

According to him, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies is willing to offer academic and professional trainings for men of the Unit.
He stated, “We are willing to explore areas of strategic interest with the Nigeria Customs Service. As a starter, the Faculty is offering the Customs a 30-minute radio programme for 13 weeks as part of our media support through our community radio station, LASU FM. This will enhance community awareness of what Customs does and the importance of its operations on the community and the nation at large”
In his response, CSC Maiwada appreciated the offer of media support made by the Faculty in enhancing public understanding of the operations of the NCS through a radio programme on LASU FM. He stated that the NCS is poised to collaborate with LASU and the Faculty in the areas of training, media enlightenment and research.
The team also visited the Department of Public Relations and Advertising. Receiving the team, the Head of the Department, Dr Julius Adeyemo commended the professional conduct of the Public Relations Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in managing relationships with the publics of the Organisation. In view of the nature of the operations of the Organisation, he advocated for more training for officers in the areas of crisis management, relationship management and effective media relations. He encouraged the officers to enrol for the University’s academic and professional programmes.
The Head of Department in company of other lecturers in the Department, Dr Ganiu Okunnu, Dr Sahid Kazeem, and Mr. Segun Giwa took the NCS team on a tour of the Department’s Creative Studio.
