Why we Support Anti-corruption Projects – Foundation
The MacArthur Foundation has said the foundation has been providing support on anti-corruption projects to address the systemic corruption that has plagued the nation for years.
This is to tackle the rampant issue which has caused significant harm to Nigeria’s economy and citizens.
The Country Director, Mr. Kole Shettima gave the hints today at the Stakeholders Inception Meeting, SIM, on the Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting, NAPPR, organized by the Center for Media, Policy and Accountability, CMPA, in Abuja.
Mr. Kole outlined that the foundation had a vision and a strong commitment for a corruption-free Nigeria and the strategies to employ to achieve the ambitious goal which commenced 8 years ago is through supporting projects like this.
He said the detrimental effects of corruption on Nigerian society have called for an urgent need for concerted efforts to combat it.
He emphasized that corruption drains resources, stifles economic growth, and perpetuates poverty, hindering the development of a prosperous nation for all Nigerian citizens.

“We are dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote transparency, accountability, and ethical governance”, he said.
In his remark, the Executive Director, of CMPA/NAPPR, Dr. Suleiman A. Suleiman noted that the project aims to bridge the gap between Anti-Corrution Agencies, ACAs, and other stakeholders through research, advocacy, training, and capacity building.
Suleiman said the project is to support and strengthen anti-corruption institutions to come up with effective legal frameworks to combat corrupt practices.
He noted that the project will focus on multiple key areas which include detection, sanction, and prevention through, data collection, investigation, and risk analysis.
He said: “The project will allocate resources to educate citizens on anti-corruption, encourage media campaigns, and promote integrity in various sectors, including government, business, and civil society.
“We the support from the MacArthur Foundation, the center has collaborated with other local and international organizations, as well as the Nigerian government, to ensure the project’s success and another network of stakeholders who share a common goal of eradicating corruption and building a brighter future for Nigeria.”
