Professor Atata Proffers Solutions to Dearth of Research In Universities
The Head of Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology, University of Abuja, Prof Razaq Funsho Atata has advocated the establishment of Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development in tertiary institutions.
Atata who is a professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology emphasised the need for collaborations between the university, resource persons, students, host communities and relevant groups to achieve expected laboratory experimentation and results.
He said areas of biomedical sciences could explore development of vaccines on various diseases and particularly the re-emerging and emerging infectious diseases.

While in the social sciences and arts, research could be carried out on the unabated social problems like Banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling and other social and criminal vices prevalent in the society, through information gatherings among many other areas.
According to him, a dedicated central laboratory should be established for scientific and other investigations to help in carrying out series of procedures in various endeavors.
Professor Atata said “The outcome of the researches carried out in all disciplines will be transmitted to a compendium meant for policy formulations and implementations
“There is a need for more funding for such academic sojourners and researchers towards providing opportunities towards academic excellence and robust policy framework.
The science scholar commended the Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja, Professor Abdulrasheed NaAllah for establishing a center for research and development, stating that it is a stepping stone towards achieving the expected results.
