NCPC Briefs Tinubu on 1,000 Pilgrims for Easter Pilgrimage Exercise

The Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam was a guest of President Bola TInubu at the State House, Abuja on Friday, 1st September. 2023.

The NCPC boss briefed Mr President on the activities and mandate of the only apex Christian faith based Agency of government in Nigeria.

He intimated Mr President of the Commission’s pilgrimage activities and programmes in Israel, Rome, Jordan and Greece.

Rev Pam also informed the President of the preparedness of his Commission to complete the 2023 Easter pilgrimage exercise to Israel and Jordan which was temporarily put on hold due to operational reasons.

Consequently, he told Mr President that about 1000 intending pilgrims were on ground for the commencement of the Easter pilgrimage exercise which would hopefully kick start on the 18th of this month with the airlift of intending pilgrims from Lagos State, and would be followed by intending pilgrims from Bayelsa, Imo, FCT as well as self sponsored pilgrims.

He cashed in on the opportunity of the visit to affirm the efficacy of using pilgrimage as a tool for national prayer retreat in the holy land.

He further explained to Mr President the pivotal role the Commission played during the last general election in which the pilgrims interceded for the country in the holy land for a hitch free general election.

Rev Pam further averred that the Commission in addition to its statutory mandate of supervising , coordinating,, licencing and regulating Christian pilgrimage activities in Nigeria, the Commission is also using its platform to engender peace across the country, considering the fact that without peace there would be no meaningful development anywhere in the world.

The Executive Secretary capitalized on the opportunity of the visit to congratulate President Bola TInubu for his successful inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria.

He equally lauded Mr President for the support and cooperation the Commission had enjoyed over the years .

He solicited the cooperation of the Federal Government in creating the enabling environment for pilgrimage activities to thrive in Nigeria because according to him,” prayer is what has been keeping Nigeria together”, he said.

Responding, President TInubu acknowledged the good work Rev Pam had been doing in NCPC, especially his efforts at repositioning the Commission by making Christian pilgrimage more spiritual and developmental.

He urged him to be focused at all times, while pledging his support for the Commission.
