How Police Ransacked Bandits’ Den, Killed 13, Freed 263 Captives in Katsina

Katsina State Police Command, yesterday, said it neutralised 13 suspected kidnappers during various operations between June and September, 2023.

A statement by the spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, said the command was also able to rescue 268 abducted persons during the period.

The statement disclosed that 104 armed robbery suspects were arrested, alongside 97 murder/culpable homicide suspects. Also, 148 suspected rapists were apprehended. Seven suspects were arrested for being in possession of illicit drugs, while exhibits recovered include one pistol and 523 rounds of ammunition.

Other exhibits were: four AK-47 rifles, six locally-made guns, more than 600 rustled animals, 12 motor vehicles, and 17 mobile phones.

Also, the patrol team of Nsukwa Police Division killed a suspected kidnapper at Egbudu-Akah, in Aniocha South Local Council of Delta State.

The Guardian learnt that the deceased and his gang members kidnapped a male victim (name withheld) who was driving home with his motorcycle, along Ashama Anu-Ugbo Farm, Nsukwa, on December 8, 2023.

It was also gathered that after the kidnap, the suspects demanded N5million ransom. The victim’s family, however, alerted the police. On December 9, 2023, at about 1210hours, the men were arrested.

Confirming the development, police spokesman, Bright Edafe, said: “The suspects were traced at different locations within the Egbudu-Akah bush. The police team combed the bushes relentlessly. The kidnappers, upon sighting the rescue team closing in on them, opened fire. The ferocious hostility caused the police to respond with superior fire, which forced the captors to take to their heels, leaving behind the male victim who was rescued unhurt.

“Afterward, at about 14:30hours, the same day, following up on intelligence, one of the suspected kidnappers was apprehended with bullet wounds. He was rushed to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment.”

Edafe also confirmed that the police, on Monday, at about 1400hours, following intelligence regarding the activities of cultists, stormed Boboroku community, in Ethiope West Council.

He said when the suspected cultists saw the police team heading towards their direction, they fled, leaving behind a bag, containing a single-barreled gun.
