How PR Solutions ‘ll Reshape Nigeria’s Reputation Globally – Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, says that effective deployment of public relations solutions can change Nigeria’s damaged reputational asset at the global level.

He emphasized that this can be achieved through a strong partnership between the government, professional groups, and the citizens.

Malagi declared this during the inauguration of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Governing Council and the induction of new members in Abuja, on Wednesday.

The minister clarified that the inauguration is in line with the provisions of the Act, CAP N114, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which established the Institute as the nation’s sole professional body responsible for regulating and developing public relations practices in both the private and public sectors of Nigeria.

Malagi, who also a fellow of the institute said, reputation is one of the key pillars in nation-building which plays a strategic role in the development of any nation.

He noted that the challenges Nigeria faced today could be termed a ‘reputation deficit’ which he said caused by the wrong perception of Nigeria on the global stage.

His word, “This is a sad phenomenon, and as professionals, we must find practical public relations solutions to reclaim our damaged reputational asset.

“Other nations also have their difficulties, but the difference lies in how the issues are managed with nuance and context. This is usually achieved through a robust partnership between the government, professional groups like the NIPR, and the citizens.”

The minister urged the newly inaugurated council members to leverage the Institute’s extensive knowledge base to create and develop relevant solutions.

He also tasked them with supporting programs and activities that promote the understanding of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-point agenda.

PRNigeria reports that 22 council members were inaugurated for the 2023-2025 term, while 24 special members were inducted into the Institute.

Among the prominent inductees were Former spokesman of Defence Headquarters, Major General Jimmy Akpor, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr Olufemi Soneye, Senior Special Assistant (Print Media) to President Bola Tinubu, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, and Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh among others.
