PR Experts, Scholars Praise “Impactful Public Relations in Customs Management” as Groundbreaking Book

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Centre for Crisis Communication and scholars have commended a new book, “Impactful Public Relations in Customs Management”, as a seminal work that showcases the transformative power of public relations in leadership.

The commendations were made at the unveiling of the new book at the 2nd Economic Confidential Public Lecture in Abuja.

The book, authored by Kabir Abdulsalam and Maryam NaAllah, both staff writers with PRNigeria and Spokespersons Digest, has a blurb by Vice President Kashim Shettima who states that “this boom demonstrates how effective PR strategies can drive positive change and bolster reputation as exemplified by CG Bashir Adewale of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The President of NIPR, DR. Ike Neliaku praised the book’s accessibility, clarity, and use of real-world examples, making it an essential resource for public relations professionals, customs officials, communication students, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding the role of public relations in leadership and management. These real-world examples inspire and motivate readers to apply the principles in their contexts.

Dr. Neliaku highly recommended the book for its practical approach, straightforward writing style, and valuable insights into effective public relations management.

The Chairman of CCC, Major General Chris Olukolade (Rtd) commended the innovative leadership of Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, a Fellow of the NIPR, who has leveraged public relations tools to elevate the customs service and inspire budding communicators and leaders on the importance of strategic communication.

Olukolade said: “This is a comprehensive guide to effective communication strategies, with practical case studies from a respected institution. It will surely equip readers with valuable tools for effective public relations practice.

The book, reviewed by Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, highlights the achievements of Comptroller General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, in leveraging public relations to elevate the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to new heights.

Prof. Ikechukwu commends the authors for providing a roadmap for PR professionals and organizations seeking to make a positive impact. He recommends the book for faculties of mass communication, business, public administration, and institutions for human capital development and leadership.

The book is a 12-chapter guide on effective public relations practices, covering various topics, including stakeholder engagement, media relations, event management, social media engagement, crisis communication, lobbying, corporate social responsibility, and reputation management.

In his comment, a senior lecturer of Mass Communication at the Bayero University Kano (BUK), Dr Sule Yau Sule said the book which offered insights into impactful public relations in management function is a testament to Adeniyi’s impactful legacy and serves as an inspiration for future leaders in using public relations to drive transformative changes.

Prof. Okechukwu, who was represented by the Northern Regional Editor of The Nation newspaper, Mallam Yusuf Ali, said: “Mr. Wale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General (CG) of Customs, is a testament to the ‘God Factor’. This concept is central to the book we are reviewing, which emphasises the significance of divine influence in our lives. The book’s second key message is that our attitude determines our altitude.

“Mr. Adeniyi has dedicated his life to refining and reshaping the Customs Service, ever mindful that he might occupy this seat one day. This book is an engaging account of how impactful public relations and customs management intersect, offering valuable lessons for all”.

According to him, the book also emphasises the significance of stakeholder engagement and its role in trust-building and community engagement.
