PANSAM YANMA: Defence Chief Launches Military Operation to Tackle Banditry

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has announced that the military will soon launch a unified operation, codenamed “Operation Pansan Yanma”, to tackle terrorism and banditry in the North West region.

Gen. Musa said the operation is to harmonize all joint task force operations, including Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Whirl Stroke, under a single commander.

Musa made this known while briefing newsmen on the operations of the military across the country on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the harmonization is necessary to synergize efforts and address the security challenges in the region.

The CDS noted that his recent visit to the North West theatre of operation provided an overview of the entire operation and realised that they needed to harmonise the operations.

“We have seen the need to harmonize them into one operation like we did in the North East, where you have Operation Hadin Kai. The same thing is being done now for the North West operation,” he explained.

The CDS noted that the bandits’ intention is to show their presence through criminal acts, but emphasized that the support of the people is critical to defeating them.

He warned that the terrorists are being fed with information on troops’ movements and described them as “deranged individuals” with no allegiance to anybody.

Gen. Musa assured Nigerians that the military has intensified efforts to ensure that all schools across the country are provided with necessary security.

He added that actions have been taken to position isolated schools together where security can be provided.
