Military’s Tech Revolution: CDI Undiandeye Outlines Strategy for Enhanced National Security
The Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Major General E. A. P. Undiandeye, reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s commitment to leveraging technology to boost operational capabilities and enhance national security.
He disclosed this today at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference 2024 in Abuja.
The conference, themed “Exploring the Role of Technology in Strengthening National and Regional Security,” is set to hold from November 11 to 15, 2024.
According to Major General Undiandeye, the annual event provides the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) with a unique opportunity to assess the security sector, uniting Defence Attachés, Advisors, and key stakeholders to strategize on advancing security capabilities.
Undiandeye described this year’s theme as timely, noting that rapid technological advancements brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoTs) have redefined modern warfare and the security landscape. He emphasized the need for an urgent review of the technological landscape to assess potential security threats.

Despite existing challenges, he assured the public of the military’s dedication to securing Nigeria, pledging that the armed forces and other security agencies would be supported with the necessary intelligence.
“Since the beginning of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, crime rates have dropped by about 65% thanks to the successes achieved by our troops,” Undiandeye noted.
He added that the DIA remains committed to integrating AI into its operations to provide accurate, timely, relevant, and actionable intelligence for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Also speaking, Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle highlighted the increasing complexity of the security landscape due to technological advancements, noting that non-state actors are exploiting these emerging tools to disrupt socio-economic stability. He urged the military to harness technology responsibly to counter adversaries and achieve national security objectives.
While declaring the conference open, Senate President and special guest of honour, Godswill Akpabio, underscored the importance of technology in security, stating, “Security is the cornerstone of development in any country.” Represented by Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Akpabio encouraged participants to use this platform to examine Nigeria’s security challenges and propose viable solutions to strengthen national security.
