IGP Hosts Interactive Session on Police Pension, Welfare of Retired Officers

IGP Hosts Interactive Session on Police Pension, Welfare of Retired Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday hosted an interactive session with retired police officers and key stakeholders of the Nigeria Police Pensions at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja. The conference provided a platform to address critical concerns regarding the police pension scheme, financial security, and the overall welfare of retired officers who have dedicated their lives to national service.

In a statement the police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), mni, who provided insights into global best practices on retirement, pension management, remuneration, and compensation principles. His presentation served as a reference point for deliberations aimed at improving the welfare of retired police officers.

Also in attendance were Hon. Justice Paul Adamu, Hon. Commissioner 1 of the Police Service Commission; members of the Force Management Team, including Deputy Inspectors-General of Police; the National President of the Association of Retired Police Officers, AIG Paul Ochonu (Rtd); and other serving senior police officers.

In his address, IGP Egbetokun acknowledged the challenges posed by the current contributory pension scheme and emphasized the need to create a sustainable framework that adequately caters to the needs of retired officers and their families. He expressed optimism that the discussions from the session would yield effective solutions to enhance the livelihood of retired personnel.

Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its officers, both serving and retired, the IGP stressed the importance of ensuring that those who have served honorably receive the respect and benefits they deserve. He assured that the Force remains dedicated to fostering dignity for all police personnel and working collaboratively to establish a fair and equitable pension system.

The interactive session marks another step in the Force’s ongoing efforts to address key concerns affecting retired officers, reinforcing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to their well-being.
