Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association Mourns Another Chairman Killed by Unknown Gunmen
Ilorin, Kwara State – The National Headquarters of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) is in mourning following the tragic killing of Idrissu Abubakar, the Chairman of the Kwara State chapter, by unknown gunmen on Saturday night. The incident occurred at Abubakar’s residence in Ilorin, where he was shot dead around 10:00 pm after returning home from Tarawee prayers.
Idrissu, aged 33, is the second MACBAN state chairman to be killed this year, just two months after the assassination of Alhaji Sirajo Ahmad Mairana, the newly elected chairman of the Katsina State chapter. The late Abubakar leaves behind two wives, six young children, and his aged mother.

MACBAN President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, condemned the killing, describing Abubakar as one of the association’s youngest and most committed state chairmen, who was actively working towards transforming the livestock production system in Nigeria. Ngelzarma expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the killing, which he described as “one too many” in a series of attacks targeting the association’s leaders.
In the past two years, MACBAN has lost over seven state and local government chairmen to unknown gunmen. The association is also grappling with the mysterious disappearance of its National Vice President, Eng. Manir Lamido, who has been missing since 2023 while traveling between Katsina and Kaduna states.
Ngelzarma extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Kwara State government, and MACBAN members nationwide. He assured that the association would do everything within its power to uncover those responsible for what he termed a “dastardly act of cowardice.”
The killing has raised concerns about the safety of MACBAN leaders and the broader challenges facing the livestock industry in Nigeria. The association has urged the government and security agencies to take decisive action to protect its members and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.

Bello Aliyu Gotomo
National Secretary, MACBAN
