NDLEA Foils Cocaine Smuggling to Angola, Seizes Drug-Infused Candies in Lagos, Arrests Suspects

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Levi Chidiebele Ubodoeze, a spare parts dealer, for attempting to smuggle two kilograms of cocaine to Angola.

The illicit substances were concealed inside vehicle propellers and were intercepted on February 21, 2025, at a logistics company within the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos. A coordinated effort with Angolan authorities led to the arrest of the intended recipient, ultimately exposing Ubodoeze as the mastermind behind the shipment. On March 6, NDLEA officers tracked him down and apprehended him while attempting to flee. A search of his residence uncovered a stash of phenacetin—commonly used to cut cocaine—and other drug-related materials.

Speaking on the development, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, reiterated the agency’s resolve in tackling drug-related crimes. “The war on drugs is not just about curbing substance abuse—it is about safeguarding our communities and future generations,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the agency intercepted a shipment of cannabis-laced candies imported from the United Kingdom. The package, intended for distribution at a Kiddies Mart in Lagos, was seized before reaching the market. Several individuals, including the recipient, Adedamola Taylor, were taken into custody.

Further nationwide operations resulted in significant seizures. On March 7, NDLEA officers in Lagos intercepted a truck carrying 128kg of compressed cannabis, while other enforcement actions led to the confiscation of opioids, tramadol, and other illicit substances across multiple states.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA’s Chairman/CEO, commended the officers involved in these successful operations. “A nation’s strength is not only in its borders but in the enforcement of justice and the integrity of its laws,” he remarked. He further emphasized the agency’s twin-pronged strategy of reducing both drug supply and demand.

These coordinated efforts underscore NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to disrupting international drug networks and protecting communities from the dangers of substance abuse.
