Troops Destroy Bandit Camps, Nab Gun runners, Recover Arms in Major Taraba Operations

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have recorded major successes in a series of coordinated anti-banditry operations across Taraba and parts of Plateau State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesperson of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Capt. Olubodunde Oni.

In a clearance mission carried out on March 22, 2025, troops, in collaboration with Sector 2 of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), launched a decisive offensive on Achalle, a border community between Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State and Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. During the encounter, the soldiers engaged bandits in a firefight, dislodging them from their hideout and recovering a motorcycle.

The operation continued at a nearby major bandit enclave consisting of over 70 huts. Despite initial resistance, troops overpowered the criminals, forcing them to flee. Another motorcycle and an international passport bearing the name Muhammadu Dahiru — suspected to be part of the criminal network — were recovered. The hideout was subsequently razed by the troops.

In further action, soldiers advanced to the Dutsen Zaki high ground, where they cleared the area and neutralized several threats, according to military sources.

Earlier on March 16, based on credible intelligence, troops raided the residence of two alleged gunrunners, Irimiya Aboki and Tanko Adamu, popularly known as “Arewa Mafia,” in Mararraba Donga, Donga LGA. Though the suspects escaped, a search of their premises yielded four pistols, one pump-action rifle, and six cartridges.

On March 20, troops apprehended a suspected arms dealer, Alhaji Mansur Mohammad, during an ambush in Donga LGA. He was found in possession of N1.2 million, reportedly intended for illegal arms purchases. Preliminary investigations linked the funds to sponsors based in Bauchi State.

On the same day, troops also arrested a suspected high-profile bandit leader, Adamu Yakubu, alias “No Money No Guy.” Intelligence reports linked him to multiple criminal activities, including a brutal attack on Tse-Shiikaa village in Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State on March 10, where two people were killed and several others injured.

Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience. He reassured the people of Taraba of the Brigade’s continued commitment to eradicating banditry and criminal elements from the region.

General Uwa also urged residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible information to help maintain peace and safety across the state.
