Why Education of Military Children Key to National Security – General Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has emphasized the critical link between the education of military personnel’s children and national security.

The CDS said this during the groundbreaking and fundraising ceremony for the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) College in Abuja.

Speaking at the  on Tuesday, General Musa highlighted that ensuring quality education for the children of Armed Forces and Police personnel directly contributes to the morale and effectiveness of Nigeria’s security forces.

“Our commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and security of our nation often demands long absences from our families,” he stated. “The establishment of the DEPOWA College will provide a conducive learning environment for our children and give our officers the peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving quality education in a structured and secure setting.”

The Defence Chief praised DEPOWA for its consistent efforts in supporting military families, empowering widows, and advancing education. He described the College project as a legacy initiative that will strengthen the intellectual and moral foundation of future generations.

“This is not just about bricks and blocks. It is about building the future on knowledge, discipline, and character. Education is the most powerful tool for change, and with DEPOWA College, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more secure Nigeria,” he added.

General Musa also used the platform to call on well-meaning individuals, corporate organizations, and development partners to contribute generously to the project, saying that every donation is an investment in the nation’s future stability.

In appreciation, he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of the Armed Forces, and expressed gratitude to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her advocacy for women and children.

He also lauded the leadership of DEPOWA, particularly its President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, for conceptualizing and driving the initiative.

“We recognize that the education and stability of our families contribute significantly to operational effectiveness. The Armed Forces remain steadfast in supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of our personnel and their families,” he concluded.
