Drug Trafficking: 23 Anambra Indigenes on Death Row in Indonesia as Soludo Blames Fake Native Doctors

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has raised alarm over the rising number of young indigenes falling victim to drug trafficking scams, blaming deceptive native doctors for misleading them with false promises of supernatural protection.

Speaking on Wednesday during an address to newly defected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who joined his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) re-election campaign, Governor Soludo revealed that 23 Anambra indigenes are currently on death row in Indonesia for drug-related offences.

According to the governor, the culprits were manipulated by self-proclaimed native doctors who sold them the dangerous belief that charms could render airport security systems ineffective.

“These native doctors deceive our youths, telling them they can use charms to blind airport scanners,” Soludo said. “Young men believe them, and that’s how we have so many of our brothers now rotting in jails abroad.”

He cited the case of one native doctor who, despite claims of mystical powers, has a son working as a waiter in Nnewi. “If it was that easy, why hasn’t he used his powers to make his own son a millionaire?” Soludo questioned.

The governor condemned the surge in get-rich-quick schemes and fetish practices, particularly the rise of “oke ite” (money ritual) peddlers who promote the illusion of instant wealth without hard work.

He warned that anyone caught making false spiritual claims or promoting illicit wealth schemes would be arrested. “One of those arrested even confessed to being just a content creator. But he has used his platform to poison the minds of our youth,” Soludo added.

While reiterating his administration’s respect for traditional beliefs, Soludo drew a clear line between genuine traditional worship and fraudulent practices. “Traditionalists of old were among the most upright. They believed the gods would punish wrongdoing. But these new criminal elements hiding under spirituality are simply fraudsters.”

The governor said his administration is intensifying its crackdown on those promoting destructive beliefs, urging young people to embrace dignity in labor and shun shortcuts to wealth that ultimately destroy lives and families.

As his 2025 re-election campaign gains momentum, Soludo is positioning himself as a reformer determined to protect the moral and social fabric of Anambra State.
