Kano Police Command Issues Fire Safety Alert Amid Rising Incidents
The Kano State Police Command has issued a public alert warning residents of the state to take extra precautions against fire outbreaks following a recent surge in incidents affecting residential homes, marketplaces, companies, and gas stations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, who disclosed this through the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said collaborative investigations with fire safety experts have linked the incidents to negligence and the recent sharp increase in atmospheric temperatures.
“In all reported cases, the Kano State Police Command, in conjunction with the Federal and State Fire Services, promptly responded to emergencies in efforts to save lives and protect property,” the statement noted.

The Command advised members of the public to take proactive fire safety steps to prevent further occurrences. Among the key recommendations are the installation of fire extinguishers in accessible locations, regular inspection of electrical appliances and gas cylinders, switching off unused appliances, and creating fire evacuation plans.
“We urge residents to report any fire incidents or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or emergency service. Vigilance and cooperation are critical to reducing the risks of fire in our communities,” the statement emphasized.
The Police Command also commended the swift response of the Kano Federal and State Fire Services, whose actions have been instrumental in minimizing damage and saving lives in recent fire emergencies.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command encouraged continuous collaboration between residents and security agencies to avert further fire outbreaks.
