The week-long outreach, which runs from May 20 to 27, is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian mission to support eye health in Nigeria.

The Press Attaché at the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Nigeria, Mohammed Al-Sahabi, disclosed this in a statement issued Thursday in Abuja.

The Lagos phase of the programme offers free eye care services to residents, including diagnostic screenings, cataract surgeries with intraocular lens (IOL) implants, correction of refractive errors, and distribution of prescription glasses.

The intervention is being implemented under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Since the programme began in Nigeria in 2019, KSrelief has conducted over 218,000 eye examinations, carried out more than 21,000 eye surgeries, and distributed over 45,000 eyeglasses.

Previous outreach efforts have taken place in states including Yobe, Kano, and Bauchi.

By bringing the initiative to Lagos,weKSrelief is expanding its reach to urban populations and addressing gaps in access to eye care services.

Gbagada General Hospital, a major public health facility in the state, is serving as the focal point for the intervention.

KSrelief has implemented over 3,400 humanitarian projects in 107 countries since it was established in 2015.

Its blindness prevention campaigns also operate in countries such as Sudan, Yemen, Bangladesh, and Mauritania.

The latest outreach further deepens Saudi Arabia’s engagement with Nigeria and reinforces its commitment to tackling preventable blindness globally.
