Boko Haram Rustles Livestock in Borno as Bandits Abduct 8 in Zamfara

Nigeria’s northern region continued to witness renewed insecurity as separate attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents and armed bandits left one herder severely injured and eight villagers abducted in Borno and Zamfara states respectively, PRNigeria learnt.

In Borno State, suspected Boko Haram fighters on Sunday, June 9, 2025, attacked a herder in the Burum village bush area of Damboa Local Government Area. The assailants, armed with machetes, ambushed 20-year-old Riskuwa Ibrahim while he was tending his livestock.

According to Zagazola Makama, the victim’s father, Ibrahim Buba, disclosed that his son sustained serious injuries to his head, hand, and back during the assault. He was subsequently rushed to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.

The attackers reportedly rustled twenty-eight (28) sheep during the ambush and fled to an unknown location.

In a separate incident on Monday, June 10, 2025, armed bandits launched an attack in the Fadama axis of Jangeru and Birnin Yero villages in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Credible local sources confirmed that at least eight persons were abducted during the raid, including a member of the Community Protection Guard (CPG) assigned to Jangeru, along with seven other residents.

Efforts by security forces and community-based vigilante groups are said to be underway to secure the release of the abducted individuals and apprehend the perpetrators.

These incidents underscore the persistent threat posed by insurgent and criminal elements in Nigeria’s northern states, particularly in rural and agrarian communities where state presence remains limited.
