Troops Arrest Suspected Bandit Impersonating Soldier, Recover Arms in Kaduna, Plateau
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected armed bandit impersonating military personnel and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in separate operations conducted in Kaduna and Plateau states.
Security sources disclosed to Zagazola Makama that on June 15, 2025, troops intercepted a suspected bandit in Katsit community, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The suspect was reportedly dressed in military combat camouflage and posed as a soldier to rob unsuspecting residents.

Items recovered from the suspect include an AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, seven empty cases of the same caliber, a fake vigilante identity card, a mobile phone, and two ATM cards. He is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation.
In a related operation on June 16, 2025, troops raided a suspected gunrunning hideout at Kwanar Lauje in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Though the suspects fled before the troops arrived, a search of the area led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, an AK-47 rifle butt, 300 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, one 9mm round, two 12.7mm rounds, and an abandoned motorcycle.
All recovered weapons and items are currently in custody, while security forces have intensified follow-up operations to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The military’s continued efforts underscore its resolve to eliminate banditry and arms trafficking across Nigeria’s North Central region.
