Death Toll Rises to 8 in Plateau Wedding Bus Attack, 22 Suspects Arrested – Police

The death toll from the brutal attack on wedding guests in Mangun community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, has risen to eight, as police confirm the arrest of 22 suspects linked to the incident.

The Plateau State Police Command disclosed the updated figure on Saturday through its spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend more suspects and rescue three passengers still unaccounted for.

According to eyewitnesses, the attacked bus was carrying 31 passengers from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Qua’an Pan in Plateau State for a wedding ceremony — a correction from earlier reports which stated the number of passengers as 28.

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State has visited the scene of the tragedy, underscoring the seriousness with which the Command is handling the investigation. Security operations have been intensified in the area to ensure the remaining culprits are brought to justice.

Authorities also confirmed that one of the victims who was undergoing treatment succumbed to injuries in the early hours of Saturday, increasing the official casualty count from seven to eight.

Demonstrating leadership and compassion, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has reached out to his Kaduna State counterpart, Senator Uba Sani, and held discussions with the families of the deceased. Following consultations, the bereaved families agreed that the victims be laid to rest in Mangu, Plateau State.

The Plateau State Government has vowed to ensure justice is served, while also taking preventive measures to avert future occurrences of such violence.

“We will leave no stone unturned,” the Police Command stated, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and order in the region.
