Soldier Kills Robbery Suspect in Niger Barracks as Police Arrest Notorious Bandit, Recover Arm in Sokoto

Security forces in Niger and Sokoto states recorded separate breakthroughs on June 23, neutralizing and apprehending criminal suspects in operations targeting armed robbery and banditry, PRNigeria learnt.

In Minna, Niger State, a suspected armed robber was shot dead by a soldier during an attempted escape from the 31 Artillery Brigade Tradoc Cantonment. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. when a military police officer, Idris Isah, encountered two unidentified men pushing a motorcycle through a rear section of the barracks fence.

Citing military sources, Zagazola Makama confirmed that one of the suspects tried to attack the soldier with a machete after being challenged. The officer responded with gunfire in self-defence, hitting one of the suspects in the side. He was rushed to the Military Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. His accomplice escaped.

The Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Dakum Koptikhin, led a police team to the scene for evidence gathering, and the deceased’s body was deposited at the IBB Specialist Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

In a separate operation in Sokoto State, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit under the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested a suspected notorious bandit, Rabi’u Antoro. Acting on credible intelligence, the suspect was apprehended at about 6:30 a.m.

During interrogation, Antoro confessed to possessing a firearm, which led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle the following day, June 24.

These coordinated efforts reflect the ongoing commitment of Nigerian security forces to combat armed criminality and enhance public safety across the country.
