APC Chairman Ganduje Resigns Amidst Bribery Allegations and Party Discontent
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has abruptly resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately. While Ganduje cited health concerns as the reason for his departure, sources within the party suggest his resignation may be linked to mounting political pressure and lingering allegations of financial impropriety.
PRNigeria reports that Ganduje, who served as Kano State Governor from 2015 to 2023 before taking the helm of the APC in August 2023, stated in his resignation letter that he needed to prioritize his personal well-being.
However, internal party sources paint a different picture. There has been growing dissatisfaction among APC stakeholders, with some members alleging that Ganduje’s leadership imposed excessive financial demands, particularly on aspirants seeking party tickets. Notably, some Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council aspirants reportedly protested against what they called exorbitant fees required for party nominations.
Adding to the pressure, Ganduje has been embroiled in a high-profile corruption allegation charges. Just last month, on May 13, 2025, a Kano State High Court dismissed his application challenging the court’s jurisdiction to hear a bribery and misappropriation case against him.

The Kano State Government has brought 11 counts against Ganduje, his wife Hafsat, son Umar, and five others, alleging bribery totaling $413,000 and misappropriation of N1.38 billion. Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, in her ruling, dismissed all preliminary objections raised by the defendants, describing them as “incompetent and lacking merit.” She ruled that the charges filed on May 13, 2024, were competent and that the matter should proceed to trial. The case has been adjourned to July 30 and 31, 2025, for hearing.
Ganduje’s sudden exit marks a significant turning point for the APC’s national leadership. A Deputy National Chairman (North) of the party, Ali Bukar Dalori, has replaced him as the National Chairman of the party.
“His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters,” APC spokesman Felix Morka said in a statement.
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.”
Morka said Tinubu directed Dalori to assume the position of Acting National Chairman, pending the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to be summoned immediately to fill the vacancy created by the resignation.
