Military, Police Foil Bandit Attacks, Rescue Victims in Katsina
Security forces in Katsina State have repelled multiple bandit attacks in coordinated operations that led to the neutralisation of a suspected bandit and the rescue of three kidnap victims, PRNigeria reports.
In the first incident, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working jointly with Police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol teams and members of the C Watch Vigilante group, foiled an attack on Kuki Village at about 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the armed bandits engaged security forces in a brief exchange of gunfire before retreating into nearby bushes. The body of a suspected bandit was later found along a bush path, believed to be one of the attackers wounded during the confrontation. A cordon-and-search operation is ongoing to track down other injured members of the gang and recover abandoned weapons.
In a separate incident, the Katsina State Police Command thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Funtua–Gusau Road at about 11:00 p.m. on August 9. Armed bandits had ambushed a white Golf 3 Wagon, registration number BWR 104 HE, driven by Sadi Ahmed, 45, and conveying two passengers — Ibrahim Umar, 40, popularly known as Dan’iya, and Babangida Yusuf, 45 — all from Yankara town. The vehicle, loaded with tomatoes from Funtua to Yankara, came under heavy gunfire from the assailants.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised an APC patrol team to the scene. The officers engaged the attackers in a tactical gun duel, forcing them to flee. The three victims were rescued unharmed.
Authorities say these operations demonstrate the ongoing synergy between security agencies and local vigilante groups in the fight against banditry in Katsina State.
