NSCDC Boss Deploys 20,850 Personnel for August 16 By-Elections Across 12 States
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has ordered the deployment of 20,850 officers and men to provide security during Saturday’s by-elections scheduled to hold in 16 constituencies across 12 states.
The elections, to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on August 16, will fill two senatorial seats, five federal constituencies and nine state constituencies in states including Anambra, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Taraba, Kogi, Kano, and Niger.

Speaking at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, Prof. Audi reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring free, fair and credible polls. He said personnel had been instructed to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, secure election materials, safeguard officials and monitor the process in synergy with the Nigeria Police, which is the lead agency in election security operations.
“All state commandants in the affected states have been adequately briefed, with emphasis on professionalism, respect for citizens’ fundamental human rights, and a commitment to ensuring peaceful conduct,” the NSCDC boss said.
He urged eligible voters to come out en masse and vote for candidates of their choice, describing participation as both a civic duty and a fundamental right.
Prof. Audi further directed officers to work closely with other security agencies to prevent any form of disruption during the polls.
The Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, signed the statement, which bore the reference number AAA.03/CPRU/NHQ/ABJ/VOL.01/08 and was dated August 14, 2025.
