Lagos Police Arrest Suspected Child Traffickers, Rescue 11 Victims

The Lagos State Police Command has smashed a notorious trans-border child trafficking gang, rescuing 11 victims and arresting four suspects alleged to be members of the criminal network that ferried young Nigerians to Ghana for prostitution.

According to the Command, the breakthrough began on August 13, 2025, when operatives of Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted Mustapha Abubakar, an okada operator and suspected recruiter, while he was attempting to traffic a 15-year-old girl out of the state. The case was immediately transferred to the Command’s Special Squad I, which launched a manhunt that led to further arrests.

The suspects arrested include Charles Chima (54) at Amuwo Odofin, Emmanuel Nwaka (36) along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and Princess John (21) at Ojota. Police investigations revealed that the suspects are part of a network responsible for recruiting and transporting young women from Nigeria to Ghana for exploitation.

Following the arrests, operatives rescued an additional 10 victims aged between 21 and 29, bringing the total number of rescued persons to 11. The victims are currently in protective custody, receiving care and support, while arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the swift and professional response of the operatives. He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for human trafficking, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements involving vulnerable persons.

The suspects are in custody and are said to be cooperating with investigators in exposing the wider syndicate.
