Kaduna Peace Model Restores Farmlands, Reopens Markets Amid Security Gains-Maiyaki
Kaduna State Government has announced significant progress in restoring peace and economic activity through its “Kaduna Peace Model,” with over 500,000 hectares of arable land recovered across previously deserted communities and the reopening of rural markets long shut by insecurity.
A statement by the Commissioner-Designate for Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said that farmers had returned to their fields, while livestock markets in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas, closed for more than a decade, had resumed operations, boosting the livelihoods of residents.
Maiyaki, however, dismissed a recent security ranking that listed Kaduna among the highest in kidnapping incidents nationwide, describing it as “false, mischievous and irresponsible.”
A report by SB Morgen had alleged that 629 persons were abducted in Kaduna between July 2024 and June 2025. But the government rejected the findings, insisting they do not reflect the present security reality in the state.
“The so-called ranking is a figment of the imagination of its authors, orchestrated to discredit the Kaduna Peace Model, which has been adjudged successful by security agencies, critical stakeholders, and international organizations,” Maiyaki said.

He emphasized that under Governor Uba Sani’s leadership, the peace initiative had led to the stabilization of flashpoints, return of displaced farmers, and revival of key markets, thereby enhancing food security and rural trade.
The government also highlighted its multi-pronged security approach, which blends robust military operations with community dialogue, socio-economic empowerment, and youth development to address both the symptoms and root causes of insecurity.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu (SAN), disclosed that in April alone, 34 joint operations by security agencies led to the arrest of 54 high-profile suspects and the rescue of more than 75 kidnapped victims. He added that several criminal hideouts had been dismantled and prosecutions were ongoing.
Dr. Shuaibu also pointed to the government’s non-kinetic interventions, including the Kaduna Peace Dialogue Group, which provides platforms for negotiation and reintegration of repentant bandits.
“The reopening of the Kara livestock market in Birnin Gwari and the Giwa market, closed for over 10 years, alongside increased agricultural yields, are milestone achievements of the Kaduna Peace Model,” he said.
Reassuring residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the government urged citizens to disregard misleading reports and instead strengthen vigilance, resilience, and cooperation with security forces to consolidate the gains of peace.
