Military Arrest Suspected Kidnapper in Niger, Foil Terrorist Attacks in Sokoto

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have intensified operations across the North-West and North-Central regions, arresting suspected kidnappers in Niger State and repelling terrorist attacks in Sokoto State.

In Niger State, three suspected kidnappers were apprehended in Rijau Local Government Area on September 4. According to sources, the suspects—identified as Mohammed Mohammed (30), Babe Sanda (25), and Buba Matilo (25)—were handed over to troops by local vigilantes in Dukku town during a routine patrol along the Rijau–Duku axis.

The suspects reportedly confessed to abducting two locals from Dukku town and taking them to a terrorist hideout in Duku Forest. They are currently in troop custody for further investigation and action.

Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, troops repelled a series of terrorist attacks and foiled kidnapping attempts. On September 3 at about 6:12 p.m., soldiers of the 8 Division, while on a fighting patrol along the Sabon Birnin–Isa Road, engaged terrorists who attempted to block the route.

After a fierce exchange of fire, the attackers fled, and troops rescued a driver transporting frozen fish, assisting in towing his vehicle to safety in Sabon Birnin.

Later that night, at about 11:30 p.m., terrorists invaded Tungar Makera village in Wurno Local Government Area, abducting four locals before escaping. Troops pursued the criminals but were unable to make contact.

However, on September 4 at about 8:55 a.m., locals in Kaura village, Shagari Local Government Area, accosted seven suspected terrorists. Four of the suspects were lynched by a mob led by local vigilantes, while troops intervened to rescue the remaining three, who were handed over to security authorities for further action.

The coordinated operations highlight the military’s determination to sustain pressure on terrorist networks, rescue victims, and strengthen collaboration with vigilantes and local communities in the fight against insecurity.
