In a significant move to bolster connectivity and philanthropy among its graduates, the Bayero University Kano Alumni Association (BUKAA) has officially launched a state-of-the-art website. The new platform, unveiled at the day-long event dedicated to reflection and renewed commitment to the alma mater, is designed to serve as a central hub for communication, networking, donations, and professional support for the university’s vast global community.

Chairman Idris hailed the website as a “transformative milestone” that will revolutionise how graduates interact with each other and their university. “This digital platform will provide dynamic, interactive opportunities for our alumni to connect, network, and give back to the institution that shaped our futures,” he stated.

Beyond the digital launch, Idris highlighted the association’s tangible contributions to campus life, including ongoing projects to improve water supply at the new campus, provide modern sanitation facilities for students, and establish a substantial endowment fund to support the University’s long-term development.

The event underscored the powerful synergy between the university and its alumni. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa—who proudly identified himself as a member of the Class of 1991—commended BUKAA’s leadership and called for even closer collaboration.

Prof. Musa shared impressive accolades to underscore the potential of this partnership: “Bayero University is currently ranked the 6th best university in Nigeria, 4th best among public universities, and 1st in international visibility. With effective leadership, robust stakeholder engagement, and enhanced funding, we will undoubtedly reach even greater heights,” he assured the gathering.

Echoing the theme of engagement, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Air Vice Marshal Saddik Isma’ila Kaita (rtd.), proposed the institutionalisation of an annual “Alumni Day.” This initiative aims to strengthen bonds, foster the exchange of ideas, and mentor current students on the importance of a strong alumni network.

PRNigeria reports that the AGM also featured a keynote address on Corporate Governance, delivered by Ambassador Shuaibu A. Ahmed, former Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. Represented by Alhaji Ali Madugu, CEO of Dala Foods, Ambassador Ahmed emphasised that principles of accountability and transparency are essential for non-profit organisations to maintain credibility, ensure sustainability, and maximise their societal impact.

Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who chaired the occasion, lauded the association’s progress while issuing a call for unity: “While we celebrate these achievements, challenges remain. We must strive for inclusivity and ensure every alumnus, everywhere, is actively engaged and united in our mission.”

The business session concluded with members passing a unanimous vote of confidence in the current BUKAA leadership and commending its presentation of an audited financial report.

In a related event, the Pre-AGM Dinner served as a night of honor for top university officers. The association conferred awards upon the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Abbas; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Mahmoud Umar Sani; and the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Shamsuddeen Umar, in recognition of their exemplary service and support.

In his vote of thanks, the association’s Vice-President, I, Aare Akinkunmi Akinyemi, explained that the AGM’s shift to the last quarter was due to unforeseen circumstances, with an assurance that future meetings would revert to the first or second quarter of the year. He extended gratitude to all alumni whose contributions ensured the resounding success of the 35th AGM.
