Anambra Police Arrest Soldier for Faking Own Kidnap, Demanding N20m Ransom
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a serving soldier, Samuel Ekezie, for allegedly faking his own kidnap and demanding ₦20 million ransom from his family.
Ekezie, 38, is attached to the 302 Artillery Regiment of the Nigerian Army, Onitsha. He was arrested on September 15, 2025, and taken into custody.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigations revealed that on August 15, 2025, the suspect staged his abduction and sent a text message to his family, demanding ₦20 million for his supposed release.
Police operatives, acting on intelligence, traced and arrested him at his hideout in Rivers State.
“The Command is conducting a thorough investigation into the case to ensure justice is served,” Ikenga said.
