Military Foils Terrorist Attacks, Rescues Victims, Dismantles Hideouts in Sokoto, Kebbi

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY) have repelled multiple terrorist attacks, neutralised two terrorists, rescued kidnapped victims, and cleared several hideouts across Sokoto and Kebbi States.

Security sources confirmed that at about 9:15 a.m. on September 30, troops of 8 Division Garrison responded to a terrorist attack on fishermen near Modachi village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, forcing the assailants to flee on sighting the soldiers.

Later at 10:12 a.m., troops foiled another attack in Bargaja village, also in Isa LGA, where terrorists had killed one civilian. Three others were rescued during the operation.

Similarly, troops of 1 Brigade engaged terrorists around Makurdi and Nasarawa villages in Ngaski LGA of Kebbi State at about 4:00 p.m. The soldiers, who laid an ambush along the Salka–Kinke–Makurdi road, neutralised two terrorists and recovered seven AK-47 magazines, 180 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two motorcycles. Eight kidnapped victims who had scattered for safety during the encounter were later rescued.

In a related development, troops carried out clearance operations in several suspected terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State. At about 8:30 a.m., troops cleared Tumbulumkum and Rumji villages in Illela LGA, followed by Rugan Ruwa, Alela and Bilangi villages in Tangaza LGA around 11:00 a.m. Although no contact was made during the clearance, troops discovered that Bilangi village had been deserted.

During their withdrawal, troops also uncovered an improvised explosive device (IED), which was safely detonated by experts.

Military authorities say the sustained operations underscore the commitment of OPFY troops to rid Sokoto, Kebbi, and neighbouring states of terrorist elements and restore peace to the affected communities.
