Troops Crush Terrorist Attack in Ngamdu, Kill Several Insurgents

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a major terrorist offensive in the Ngamdu general area of Borno State, killing several insurgents and regaining full control of the area after intense gunfire exchanges.

The attack, which occurred on Thursday, saw the terrorists launch a coordinated assault using Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and command-initiated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), targeting both troops and military platforms.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East (OPHK), the troops, supported by reinforcements from the 29 Task Force Brigade, responded swiftly and decisively, overpowering the assailants with superior firepower.

Despite the ferocity of the attack, the soldiers maintained their defensive positions, inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists. Credible intelligence later confirmed mass burials of about 15 terrorist corpses around Bula Wura, near Wasaram, indicating the scale of enemy losses.

However, the military also suffered some casualties, with four personnel killed in action (KIA) and five wounded in action (WIA). Some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks also sustained varying degrees of damage.

In a bid to stall reinforcements, the terrorists planted multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR). The route was temporarily closed until military engineers successfully neutralized and cleared three explosive-laden points. Movement for troops and civilians has since been restored.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba disclosed that following the attack, troops received immediate resupply of logistics, including MRAP tyres and ammunition, to sustain the tempo of counter-operations. The 29 Task Force Brigade has also launched fighting patrols and exploitation missions to track down fleeing terrorists and deny them freedom of action.

He commended the courage and professionalism of the troops, assuring residents that normalcy had returned to Ngamdu and surrounding communities.

“Our troops displayed exceptional gallantry and resilience in the face of intense pressure. Operations are ongoing to maintain peace and security across the Ngamdu–Damaturu axis,” Lt. Col. Uba stated.

The Nigerian military has continued to sustain aggressive counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, targeting terrorist hideouts and disrupting their logistics networks in a bid to restore enduring stability to the region.
