Troops Neutralise Four ISWAP Terrorists, Rescue Hostages, Foil Boko Haram Attack in Borno

In a renewed onslaught against insurgents in Borno State, troops of Operation Desert Sanity IV, Lake Sanity III, and Operation HADIN KAI have recorded major successes by neutralising four Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, rescuing two kidnapped victims, and foiling a Boko Haram attack in separate operations across the state, PRNigeria learnt.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that during a clearance patrol on Thursday, troops operating along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis engaged ISWAP terrorists in a fierce gun duel at the Zundur general area. The encounter, which occurred at about 2:35 p.m., involved 16 soldiers and eight members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on ten motorcycles.

The coordinated offensive led to the neutralisation of four terrorists, while several others fled into the surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds. Two kidnapped victims, identified as Mr. Modu Kinnami (55) and Mr. Bukar (57), both residents of Guzamala Local Government Area, were rescued in the process.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the insurgents had demanded a ransom of ₦2 million and two new Tecno button phones for the release of their brother.

Items recovered from the scene included a blue pickup vehicle with registration number GUB 327 XA, two new Tecno button phones, a jerrycan containing 30 litres of petrol, and a total cash sum of ₦4,355,000.

The source added that while the general security situation in the Gajiram axis remains calm but unpredictable, troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high.

In a separate development, troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working jointly with police tactical teams and local hunters, on Friday repelled a Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on Goni Dinari village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The insurgents, who stormed the community around 5:56 a.m., reportedly set some houses ablaze before troops, supported by the CJTF, police, and hunters, swiftly engaged them in a counteroffensive that successfully repelled the assault.

Normalcy has since been restored to the area, with troops conducting confidence-building patrols as well as ongoing monitoring and surveillance operations to prevent further attacks.

The recent operations underscore the sustained momentum by Nigerian forces and local security networks in reclaiming communities and maintaining pressure on remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists across the Northeast.
