Two Bandits Neutralized as Security Forces Raid Bandits’ Enclave in Sokoto, Recover Arms

Security operatives have neutralised two suspected bandits and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a raid on a criminal hideout in Julirkol Forest, located in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The operation, conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Sokoto State Police Command on Wednesday, October 22, followed credible intelligence indicating that a group of armed bandits wielding sophisticated weapons were taking refuge in the forest.

Upon arrival at the camp, the hoodlums reportedly engaged the police team in a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes. The operatives, however, overpowered the assailants, killing two of them, while several others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

A security source confirmed that items recovered from the scene included one AK-49 rifle (breach number 80 KC 3335), one locally fabricated rifle, three sharp cutlasses, and ten rounds of live ammunition.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, commended the gallantry of the personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain aggressive onslaughts against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the state.

He urged residents to continue providing credible information that could aid ongoing security operations across the state, assuring that the police remain committed to restoring lasting peace and safety in Sokoto and its environs.
