Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims, Recover ₦3.8m Ransom in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have foiled a kidnap operation, rescuing two abducted victims and recovering ₦3.8 million ransom in a fierce gun battle with armed criminals in Kogi State.

The successful rescue operation took place on 2 November 2025 after troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma received credible intelligence on the movement of kidnappers operating along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis.

Acting swiftly, the soldiers launched a decisive patrol to Achigili Forest, where the abductors were suspected to be holding hostages. However, the troops came under heavy fire from the kidnappers as they approached the hideout.

Undeterred, the soldiers fired back with superior firepower, forcing the bandits to abandon two captives and flee into the bush with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

After the encounter, the troops rescued the two victims unhurt and recovered the ₦3,800,000 ransom money that was being taken to the kidnappers by relatives of the victims. The rescued individuals were later debriefed, while the recovered cash was handed back to them.

They are currently safe in the troops’ custody pending formal handover to the appropriate authorities.

In a statement, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, said the operation was part of sustained efforts to rid Kogi State of kidnappers and criminal gangs threatening peace and security.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, calling on residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist in ongoing operations against criminal elements across the state.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute and unwavering in its determination to protect law-abiding citizens. We urge the public to continue supporting the military and other security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities promptly,” the statement read.
