Maj. Gen. Audu Takes Over as New MNJTF Force Commander

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has witnessed a change of leadership following the assumption of command by Major General Saidu Tanko Audu as the new Force Commander.

General Audu took over from Major General Godwin Michael Mutkut, OFR, during a formal handing and taking-over ceremony held on Thursday at the MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad. His appointment follows a recent redeployment exercise by the Nigerian Army Headquarters that involved senior officers after the appointment of new service chiefs.

In his valedictory remarks, outgoing Force Commander Major General Mutkut expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Head of Mission MNJTF, Military Staff Officers, the African Union Mission Support Team, the European Union, and other technical partners for their consistent support and collaboration.

He attributed the successes achieved under his tenure to the professionalism and teamwork of officers and men of the MNJTF. General Mutkut urged personnel to extend the same level of dedication and cooperation to his successor as he proceeds to his new appointment as Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.

Delivering his maiden address, the new Force Commander, Major General Audu, thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM, for the confidence reposed in him. He commended his predecessor’s leadership and pledged to build on the existing gains and synergy among the components of the MNJTF.

He further called on officers and troops to remain disciplined, focused, and innovative in the conduct of ongoing operations. He also emphasized the need for strengthened collaboration with local communities and security stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and stability within the Lake Chad region.

Highlights of the ceremony included the signing and exchange of handing and taking-over notes, the symbolic presentation of the command flag, and a group photograph.
