Again, Tinubu nominates Dambazau, 3 others for ambassadorial appointment
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has yet again forward the names of nominees to the Senate for confirmation as ambassadors.
The latest list features several prominent figures, including the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; former presidential aide, Ita Enang; former First Lady of Imo State, Chioma Ohakim; and former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.).
The nominations were unveiled on Thursday during plenary after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read President Tinubu’s letter to lawmakers. In the correspondence, the president urged the Senate to expedite consideration of the nominees to ensure timely filling of key diplomatic postings.
Akpabio subsequently referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, mandating the panel to screen the nominees and submit its report within one week.

This development comes days after the President forwarded an earlier batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees—comprising 15 career and 17 non-career candidates—to the Senate. That list included notable figures such as former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; ex-presidential aide, Reno Omokri; and former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled “Tinubu Nominates 32 Additional Ambassadors,” the combined lists include 10 women, with four designated as career ambassadors and six as non-career nominees.
Onanuga said the envoys are expected to be deployed to countries and multilateral missions with which Nigeria maintains important diplomatic relations, including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, as well as Nigeria’s Permanent Missions to the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union.
“All nominees will receive their specific postings after Senate confirmation,” the statement added.
