Army Eliminates Several Bandits in Taraba, Rescue Abducted Cleric in Plateau

Nigerian Army troops have recorded significant operational successes across Taraba and Plateau states, neutralising bandits in one operation and rescuing a kidnapped clergyman in another.

In Taraba State, soldiers of the 6 Brigade, operating under the decisive phase of Operation Peace Shield, neutralised two armed bandits during a fighting patrol in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

Security sources revealed that the troops advanced from the Karim General Area towards Usmanu and encountered the criminals around Wudompi community.

The operation resulted in the death of two bandits and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Troops have since intensified exploitation of the area to track down other bandits believed to be hiding in the vicinity.

In a separate operation in Plateau State, army personnel rescued a kidnapped cleric, Reverend Ephraim Yakubu, who was abducted on December 3 in front of his residence at Agingi Village, along Rukuba Road, in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area.

Troops on a clearance patrol around high grounds in the Miango axis engaged the kidnappers at about 7:40 a.m. on December 4, causing them to flee and abandon the victim.

Reverend Yakubu was discovered tied beneath a rock, with injuries sustained during captivity.

Security operatives also recovered one fabricated rifle with a magazine containing eight rounds of 9mm ammunition from the scene.

The rescued clergyman was evacuated to the 3 Division Military Specialist Hospital (3 DMSH) for treatment.

Military authorities say efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects in both operations.
