IGP Orders Nationwide Police Deployment Ahead of Yuletide Celebrations
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered a massive nationwide deployment of police personnel and operational assets to guarantee a safe, peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebrations across the country.
The directive, issued as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s proactive festive season security strategy, mandates all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in the states to intensify patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations and community confidence-building engagements throughout the yuletide period.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP has placed specialized police units on heightened operational readiness to swiftly respond to any security threat.
These units include the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Command, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Special Intervention Squad, Highway Patrol, Marine Police and the Police Airwing.

“The deployment will focus on places of worship, recreational centres, markets, parks, event venues, transport terminals, highways, critical national infrastructure and other high-density public spaces,” the statement said.
It added that additional patrol teams and surveillance units have been activated along inter-state routes and major expressways to prevent road-related crimes, traffic disorder and accidents during the festive rush.
The IGP also directed officers deployed for the assignment to be professional in their conduct, stressing that they must be firm but courteous in the discharge of their duties.
Beyond routine patrols, Egbetokun ordered all police commands to sustain raids on identified blackspots, forests, criminal hideouts and flashpoints, while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure comprehensive security coverage nationwide.
While wishing Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, the police boss urged citizens to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians enjoy the yuletide season and beyond in an atmosphere of peace, safety and security,” the statement assured.
The nationwide security deployment takes effect immediately and will remain in force throughout the festive period.
