Lagos Police Deploy Over 5,000 Officers for Christmas, New Year Celebrations

The Lagos State Police Command has rolled out robust security measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, ordering the massive deployment of police personnel across the state to ensure the safety of lives and property.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on December 23, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

According to the statement, the deployment cuts across conventional police officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, marine police, and special squads strategically positioned across the state to prevent any breach of security before, during, and after the festivities.

Marine officers have been tasked with intensified patrols and surveillance of Lagos waterways to prevent criminal infiltration, while intelligence operatives are monitoring individuals and groups whose activities could threaten public peace. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of tactical units have also been directed to intensify patrols, ensure visibility policing, and maintain round-the-clock surveillance across the nooks and crannies of the state.

To ease traffic congestion and ensure free vehicular movement during the festive rush, the Command has deployed over 5,000 police personnel specifically for traffic duties across major highways, inner roads, and identified traffic-prone areas.

The statement further revealed that, in a bid to curb the upsurge in fatal road accidents during the festive season, CP Jimoh recently held a strategic meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, alongside other security and safety agencies. Participants at the meeting included representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Fire Service, the Federal Controller of Works, and other stakeholders, where sustainable measures to reduce road accidents and enhance public safety were deliberated upon.

Additionally, police joint teams comprising conventional officers, tactical squads, smart operatives, and intelligence units have been deployed across the state to crack down on traffic robbers, hoodlums, miscreants, and other criminal elements who may attempt to exploit the festive period to disrupt public peace.

Special attention, the statement noted, is also being given to the security of places of worship, recreational centres, nightclubs, markets, motor parks, and other public gathering points expected to witness increased human traffic during the celebrations.

CP Jimoh, according to the statement, assured residents and visitors of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property throughout the festive season and beyond. He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious activities or incidents to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, and 08039344870.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its resolve to ensure a safe, peaceful, and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration for all residents of the state.
