Artillery Commander Visits OPHK, Pledges Sustained  Support for N’East Operations

The Commander Corps of Artillery (CCA), Major General John Adeyemo, has pledged sustained support to Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to enhance operational effectiveness and further stabilise Nigeria’s North-East region.

Major General Adeyemo made the pledge on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in line with the vision and command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

Speaking during the visit, the CCA explained that the engagement was aimed at conducting an operational assessment and evaluation of Artillery Corps resources deployed in the theatre. He noted that the visit would also allow for on-the-spot assessment of artillery platforms supporting OPHK and provide an opportunity to interface with key operational stakeholders.

“I am here to walk the talk,” Major General Adeyemo said, stressing that artillery platforms remain critical assets for delivering coordinated and effective firepower in ongoing operations.

While conveying the COAS’ special season’s greetings to officers and troops of OPHK, the Artillery Chief reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Corps of Artillery to supporting counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts in the theatre.

He commended the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for his professional and innovative leadership in addressing security challenges in the North-East. He also praised the level of synergy and cohesion within the theatre and lauded the gallantry and resilience of troops, describing them as “warriors and gallant soldiers.”

Earlier, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the CCA for undertaking the visit despite the festive season, describing it as a demonstration of foresight, commitment, and sacrifice.

He emphasised that artillery remains a critical component of the Nigerian Army’s firepower, noting that its contributions to operations in the North-East cannot be overemphasised. He reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to the optimal utilisation of all combat enablers, particularly artillery platforms, to ensure sustained operational effectiveness.

Major General Abubakar expressed confidence that challenges identified during the visit would be promptly addressed by the Corps of Artillery under the leadership of Major General Adeyemo.

During the visit, the CCA received detailed operational briefs on OPHK activities, including achievements and challenges in the theatre. He described the briefings as comprehensive and insightful, assuring that deliberate efforts would be made to address identified gaps to enhance coordination and overall operational success.

As part of the assessment tour, Major General Adeyemo is also scheduled to inspect selected artillery platforms and commission projects within the theatre.

Highlights of the visit included extensive operational briefings, deliberations by senior officers, signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
