Nigeria, U.S. Launch Joint Precision Operation Against Foreign ISIS Fighters in North-West
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in conjunction with the United States of America, have conducted precision strike operations against identified foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in parts of North-West Nigeria.
The operation, carried out with the approval of appropriate Federal Government authorities, followed credible intelligence and detailed operational planning aimed at degrading the capacity of the targeted terror elements while minimising collateral damage.
In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the joint action forms part of sustained, coordinated efforts to rid the country of terrorists and other criminal groups threatening national security.
According to the military, the strikes were intelligence-led and carefully executed to disrupt the activities of foreign fighters believed to be attempting to establish or expand terrorist footholds within Nigeria’s borders.

Major General Uba reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that joint and inter-agency collaboration remains central to restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
He added that the Nigerian military will continue to work closely with international partners and domestic security agencies to counter evolving terrorist threats and safeguard national sovereignty.
The Defence Headquarters reiterated that ongoing operations across various theatres remain focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure, denying extremists freedom of movement, and ensuring the safety of communities affected by insecurity.
