Police Ambush Armed Gang, kill Two in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has killed two suspected armed gang members during a fierce gun battle at Enugwu Agidi Junction in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush on a five-man gang suspected to be involved in armed robbery, cult activities and links to a proscribed secessionist group.
Police said the suspects engaged operatives in a gun duel that lasted about two hours upon sighting security personnel. Two members of the gang sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while three others escaped with varying degrees of injuries.
Items recovered at the scene included one T.06 rifle, two pump-action guns, 24 rounds of T.06 ammunition, 15 live cartridges, assorted charms, a cult red beret and a black Toyota Highlander vehicle.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said one of the suspects, before dying, confessed that the gang was linked to an attempted attack on the convoy of a former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige. He also disclosed that members of the gang belonged to the Vikings confraternity and were on a mission to retaliate the killing of one of their members by a rival cult group.
Commending the operatives for their gallantry, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed them to intensify efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle the gang completely.
The police also advised hospitals and medical facilities in the state to report anyone presenting with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.
Ikenga said investigations were ongoing and assured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining security across the state.
