Casualties Recorded as Suicide Bombers Hit Market, Hospital, Flyover in Maiduguri
At least 23 persons have been killed and 108 others injured following a series of coordinated suicide bomb attacks by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in a renewed wave of violence targeting civilians.
The attacks, which occurred on Monday evening shortly after the breaking of Ramadan fast, struck multiple high-profile locations across the city, including the Maiduguri Monday Market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover.
Security sources told PRNigeria that the near-simultaneous explosions point to a carefully coordinated operation designed to inflict maximum casualties, spread panic, and disrupt socio-economic activities in the state capital.
The choice of targets—a crowded market, a hospital vicinity, and a busy traffic corridor—has further heightened concerns over evolving tactics by insurgent groups seeking to undermine ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.
Confirming the incident, the Borno State Police Command said preliminary investigations indicate that the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, authorities disclosed that 23 people lost their lives, while 108 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency response agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA), collaborated with medical teams to evacuate victims to hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Residents described the attacks as one of the most disturbing incidents in recent months, reigniting fears over the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups despite ongoing military operations in the region.
Security analysts say the latest attacks underscore the need for sustained intelligence-driven operations and heightened vigilance to counter the shifting strategies of terrorist groups in the North-East.
