FRSC Recovers Stolen Vehicle in Ekiti Using NVIS Technology
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another operational success with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State, reinforcing its growing reliance on technology-driven enforcement.
The breakthrough, which occurred on March 23, 2026, was made possible through the Corps’ National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform during routine data processing at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti.
According to the FRSC, the incident was triggered when a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area submitted vehicle details that raised suspicion. The chassis number of the vehicle, identified as a Toyota Camry 2006 model, did not align with the manufacturer’s standard sequence.

Acting on the anomaly, the NVIS Desk Officer conducted further verification by correcting the chassis number and running it through the database. The system subsequently produced a match linking the vehicle to one reported stolen two years ago. Confirmation from the original owner validated the report, prompting immediate recovery efforts.
Following the development, the State Licensing Officer and Sector Commander were briefed, and initial steps were taken to invite the suspect for verification. However, when the suspect failed to comply, the case was escalated to the Nigeria Police for further action.
Acting on intelligence, operatives from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin recovered the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti.
The FRSC noted that the operation underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration and highlights the effectiveness of the NVIS database in tracking and verifying vehicle ownership across the country.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to curbing vehicle-related crimes and urged members of the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details to avoid legal consequences.
It further assured Nigerians of its continued dedication to enhancing road safety, strengthening national security, and protecting citizens through intelligence-driven operations and strategic enforcement.
