Police Rescue 7 as IGP Deploys DIG to Kaduna Over Deadly Village Attack
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to Kaduna State following a deadly attack on Ariko Village near Gurara Dam.
The attack, which occurred on April 5, 2026, saw armed bandits storm ECWA and Catholic churches in the community, opening fire on worshippers. Five persons were confirmed killed, while about 14 others were abducted during the incident.
In swift response, the police chief directed an immediate operational intervention, tasking the DIG Operations to lead on-ground assessments and coordinate security efforts aimed at restoring order and rescuing the victims.

Police said the joint operation, led by Nadada and supported by the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), has so far resulted in the rescue of seven abducted persons. The victims have been evacuated to Katari Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The police high command reaffirmed its commitment to securing the release of the remaining captives and bringing the perpetrators to justice. The IGP also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations.
