Troops Intercept Ammunition, Explosives in Kaduna, Neutralise IEDs in Imo
Nigerian security forces have recorded significant gains in ongoing counter-threat operations, intercepting a cache of ammunition and explosive materials in Kaduna State while also discovering and neutralising improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Imo State.
In Kaduna, troops deployed along the Manchok–Jos road on April 16, 2026, intercepted a large consignment of ammunition and suspected explosive components during a routine stop-and-search operation.
Security sources said the operation occurred at about 11:45 a.m. near Boys Science Secondary School in Manchok, when a navy blue Opel wagon conveying seven passengers was flagged down for inspection.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 569 anti-aircraft rounds, a warhead, empty AK-47 shells, and components believed to be used in the fabrication of explosive devices. Some condemned mobile phones were also found among the items.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Khalifa Bawa, reportedly claimed during preliminary interrogation that the items were part of a waybill consignment received from an unidentified individual. However, he was unable to provide verifiable details of the sender or intended recipient.

All seven occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody for further investigation, with security authorities indicating that the suspects would be transferred to appropriate agencies for detailed interrogation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, in Imo State, joint security forces comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps conducted a coordinated fighting patrol in Orsu Local Government Area on the same day.
During the operation, which took place around 9:50 a.m. in the Uda general area, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team discovered two improvised explosive devices concealed within the environment.
The devices were successfully neutralised on site without incident, according to security sources, preventing potential harm to civilians and security personnel.
The patrol forms part of sustained joint operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement and disrupting their activities across volatile areas.
Security forces have maintained heightened surveillance and operational presence in both regions, reinforcing efforts to curb the proliferation of arms, dismantle explosive threats, and enhance public safety.
