Military Eliminates 24 Terrorists in Midnight Failed Attack on Kukareta, Recovers Arms
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI under the Joint Task Force (North East) have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in the early hours of Thursday, inflicting significant casualties on the assailants and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition.
The attack, which began shortly after midnight on April 23, 2026, lasted until about 3:00 a.m., according to a statement issued by the military. However, the troops mounted a rapid and coordinated response, adopting a combined offensive-defensive strategy that effectively contained the assault and forced the attackers to retreat in disarray.

During the encounter, at least 24 terrorists were neutralised, while ongoing battlefield exploitation has led to the recovery of substantial weaponry. Items recovered include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
The military also reported that two soldiers were wounded in action but have since been stabilised. Additionally, one reinforcing armoured tank sustained damage during the engagement, with all its tyres blown out.
Troops have continued exploitation operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, where traces such as blood trails and abandoned medical supplies suggest further enemy casualties.

Operation HADIN KAI assured that sustained offensive operations will continue across the North East to consolidate recent gains and decisively eliminate terrorist elements in the region.
The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East).
