Troops Crush ISWAP Attack on Buni Gari, Kill 50 Terrorists
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a large-scale attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade in Buni Gari, Yobe State, killing no fewer than 50 insurgents during a fierce overnight battle.
The coordinated assault, launched in the early hours of Thursday, targeted both the brigade headquarters and the Buni Gari checkpoint from multiple directions.
Military authorities said the terrorists attacked under the cover of darkness at about 2:00 a.m., attempting to overwhelm troops through simultaneous offensives from the western, southern and south-western flanks.
However, troops reportedly held their ground and responded with heavy firepower, successfully neutralising scores of the attackers and preventing any breach of the military formation.
A statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, described the encounter as a major operational victory against the insurgents.
According to the statement, troops employed coordinated offensive and defensive tactics, including indirect fire operations, to dismantle the assault and force the terrorists into retreat.
“The terrorists were met with devastating resistance and retreated in confusion, evacuating some of their killed and wounded fighters,” the statement said.

Military exploitation of the area after the battle reportedly led to the recovery of 10 terrorist corpses around the immediate vicinity of the base, while intelligence reports indicated that more bodies were scattered along withdrawal routes around Gashua, Azare and Kamuya.
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also played a significant role in the operation by providing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance support and conducting precision airstrikes on fleeing insurgents.
The military said the air interdiction missions accounted for additional terrorist casualties as fighter aircraft pursued retreating elements along identified escape corridors.
Troops recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the scene, including eight AK-47 rifles, two General Purpose Machine Guns, two Rocket-Propelled Grenade tubes, RPG bombs, ammunition boxes, loaded magazines and improvised explosive device canisters.
Despite the operational success, the military confirmed that two soldiers lost their lives during the engagement, while wounded personnel are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
Some military platforms, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and gun trucks, also sustained minor damage during the encounter.
Troops, supported by volunteer forces, are continuing exploitation operations in the area to track fleeing insurgents and prevent any regrouping attempts.
The military high command described the failed attack as further evidence of mounting pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North-East, insisting that troops remain battle-ready and committed to denying insurgents freedom of action across the theatre of operations.
