Army Chief Motivates Zamfara Farmers with Fertiliser to Boost Food Production
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has donated 400 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State as part of efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and support communities affected by insecurity in the North West.
The intervention, facilitated through the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, took place at the palace of the Emir of Maru on Thursday and attracted government officials, military personnel, traditional rulers, and members of the community.
The donation forms part of the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting farmers ahead of the 2026 farming season and enhancing food production in Zamfara State.
Speaking during the event, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Warrah Idris, represented by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Usman Abdullahi, said the initiative reflected the Armed Forces’ commitment to rebuilding hope and strengthening peace in communities impacted by insecurity.

According to him, the military remains resolute in sustaining ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
He urged beneficiaries to utilise the fertilisers effectively during the farming season while also encouraging residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely intelligence.
“The initiative symbolizes the commitment of the Armed Forces to strengthening peace and rebuilding hope within communities affected by insecurity,” he stated.
Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Honourable Laminu Dansadau, described the gesture as timely and commendable, noting that it would help boost agricultural activities and strengthen the local economy.
Similarly, the Emir of Maru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari, expressed appreciation to the COAS and the military authorities for the intervention.
The traditional ruler assured that the fertilisers would be distributed fairly to genuine farmers across the emirate to support food production and improve livelihoods.
The event featured symbolic distribution of fertiliser to selected beneficiaries, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
