DHQ: Troops Intercept Terrorists Crossing from Cameroon into Nigeria
The Defence Headquarters has disclosed that troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, intercepted suspected terrorists attempting to cross from Cameroon into Nigeria with logistics supplies during ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Borno State.
The operation was among several military offensives conducted across different theatres between May 8 and 14, 2026, as the Armed Forces of Nigeria sustained pressure on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves, and other criminal elements nationwide.
According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, troops on ambush duty along the Banki-Kumshe Road in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State intercepted the terrorist logistics convoy on May 8.
The terrorists reportedly abandoned their supplies and fled after encountering troops.
Recovered items included bicycles, jerrycans containing fuel, surgical drips, assorted medications, motorcycle spare parts, phone batteries, food items, and other materials believed to be intended for insurgent operations.
On the same day, troops deployed at Buni Gari in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State repelled a large-scale terrorist attack on their location.
Following the engagement, troops neutralised five terrorists, including a foreign national, and recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun, an AK-47 rifle, an RPG tube with bombs, over 2,000 rounds of assorted ammunition, and cash.

The military, however, disclosed that three soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation.
The Defence Headquarters also highlighted the rescue of abducted women and children during separate operations around the Mandara Mountains and the Amuda-Gava corridor in Borno State.
Troops rescued 12 abductees from Ngoshe community who had been held captive since an attack on the community in March 2026 before reuniting them with their families.
In the North-West, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued 32 kidnapped victims during clearance operations in Katsina State and intercepted several other victims who escaped following airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Zamfara State.
The operations also led to the arrest of suspected terrorist collaborators, gunrunners, kidnappers, and logistics suppliers across Kaduna, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba, and Yobe states.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE intensified anti-crude oil theft operations in the Niger Delta, recovering illegal crude oil, stolen petroleum products, and equipment linked to oil bunkering activities in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
Major General Onoja stated that the operations reflected the Armed Forces’ determination to sustain aggressive offensives against all forms of insecurity threatening national peace and stability.
He added that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, had commended troops for their resilience, professionalism, and sacrifices in ongoing operations across the country.
